School Lunch

In her book Bird by Bird , Anne Lamott says she keeps a tiny, one-inch picture frame by her desk to remind her to focus on short assignments, to remember that she only has to write what she could see through that one, tiny frame. When writing seems like a gargantuan, impossible task, remember to start small. You don't have to write something huge, important, or even good. You just have to write something. Just let some words come out. Here's something Lamott suggests to her students: write about lunches for half an hour.

Project 365 Failure

So, my Project 365 attempt was a resounding failure, which is not altogether unexpected. Let's not spend too much time discussing it or feeling guilty - instead, we'll just chalk it up to what Steven Pressfield calls "Resistance." (I'm currently reading his book on succeeding in creative fields - The War of Art . Main takeaway so far? You just gotta do it, and when you don't do it, spending a lot of time thinking about how you didn't do it is just another way of not doing it.) Instead of dwelling on this failure, I'm just going to post some pictures that cover the last three months. October: Counting China For the wedding, we borrowed china from family members, friends, and my great-grandparents' antique shop so each table could have mismatched sets.
