House Plants aka Mario Creatures

Image
I bought these plants while I was at Lowe's the other day because they reminded me of Mario Bros.  Like so:

Tile Workshop

Image
My mom signed us up for a workshop on choosing tile. Things I learned: 1) If you have well water, choose tile with a reddish or brown tint and go with brown grout. 2) Stone is better for resale (more timeless) than glass subway tile :( 3) Set your grout space at 1/8 of an inch. The less grout, the better. I've never laid tile before, but we're (read: we = me, and Michael is maybe going along with it) thinking about doing a backsplash in the kitchen. It's just that all these HOUSE PROJECTS are so much work, and they're so SEEMINGLY PERMANENT. I can't make decisions, because what if I eff up our house? At least I finally made a paint decision for the living room, and so far I'm loving it. It's just that now the living room no longer matches the rest of the house in color or style. HOUSE PROJECTS. CAPITAL LETTERS BECAUSE THEY'RE SO SERIOUS.

BONES IN THE YARD

Image
I had been weeding this area for a good 5 minutes before I noticed this PILE OF BONES RIGHT BY MY HAND.  I know it's probably a rabbit or something, and it's a natural thing to happen, but it's still creepy to realize there's a pile of bones by you.

Agriculture in Arkansas

Image
It's not enough for a truck just to serve as a mode of transportation; I like my trucks to teach me something, too. Yay, Arkansas! Bait fish & Goldfish, Catfish, and Rice. Seriously, though, this made my drive home. On another note, these flowers came up today: They're crazy purple puff balls on a long stem. Turns out they're onion flowers called Allium, which I only realized when they started popping up in several places throughout the yard. I had to transplant one because it was growing into a neighboring bush, and, yup, there's an onion on the end of that thing. Crazy. Nature is crazy.

More Planting

Image
We're having Mothers' Day at our house next weekend, so I felt motivated enough to get some flowers for the back deck. I like this daisy / yellow mum combo...it makes me happy. I used to hate yellow -- I'd always graviate towards cool colors, and yellows, reds, and oranges just weren't my thing. But I find myself liking them more and more recently. It's mostly combinations of colors that I love -- yellow has to have something else to set it off.

Clyde Staring at a Bug

Image
I watched Clyde watch this bug as it made its way across the floor. He didn't attack it, didn't even paw it. Just watched it.

Scott's Graduation

Image
My youngest brother graduated from Ball State today, which made me strangely weepy at times (it's just, there were all these people there who'd worked so hard to get their kids through school, and the band was so bad, which made me think of my high school band, which made me think of how it feels like high school was not that long ago, but now Scott is graduating from COLLEGE, and time is a bitch, and I like myself so much better now than I did in college, but I'm almost THIRTY, and Scott used to be 2 years old with a bowl cut, and then the woman was telling them they could move their tassels to the other side, and then blah, blah, future, empowerment, the rest of your life is ahead of you, blah blah blah). Graduations are interminable and very rarely interesting, and though this speaker seemed like a nice man, it was not a very good speech. The upside was that I got to have a grilled cheese afterwards when we all had lunch/dinner at Mo's Irish Pub. My brother and R...
