Fridays

(Day Thirteen)

This post is going to a bit rambling.

It's Friday evening. I would say Friday evening is probably the best part of the weekend -- the weekend is just starting, so you haven't lost any of it yet. Sometimes I have obligations on Saturday or Sunday, or there are things I want to get done or work on, but Friday evenings are usually just Michael and me. No obligations, no responsibilities, just the whole wide weekend ahead of you. I also tend to be really sleepy on Fridays, so it seems best to just lay around on the couch. Okay, it always seems best to just lay around on the couch, Friday or not.

My plans tonight are to watch some Scandal -- I'm already in my PJs with the blanket on top of me. Problem is I have this stupid effing writing challenge I have to do, first.

Today was a busy day, like all days have been lately at work. There are a couple big, multiple-moving-parts projects I've been working on, and managing the details seems to have consumed much of my waking hours. I'm doing interviews and conference calls and redlining contracts and prioritizing projects, plus the normal day-to-day work involved in helping my team and, you know, marketing. I like feeling productive and impactful and like I KNOW MY BIZNISS -- I'm a PROBLEM SOLVER -- but it's not the quieter, more creative, more present and aware life I always thought I'd prefer. Would I be bored with that quieter life? Would I hunger for someone to come to me with an issue I could handle? I don't know. I do love my team and the work we do. And this level of intensity isn't unusual -- we're always working on something that's a big deal. There has to be a way to find a better balance, though. Writing and working on Olive & Clyde has helped even things out some. I think warm weather will help, too.

I've been thinking some lately about what kinds of stories I want to tell. I have a few ideas, but there's nothing that screams out, "This is your thing!" I might have to just start trying different stuff and see how it goes. It'll probably be good practice.

Tomorrow is Ryne's 1st birthday party, so I'm sure I'll have more interesting things to say then.
