Ryne's Birthday

(Day Fifteen)

I'm so, so, so sad the weekend is over. They go so quickly.

Today was an extremely lazy day. Because of the time change, I woke up even "later" than normal on a Sunday, and then while I spent a couple hours finishing Olive & Clyde's taxes and doing some actual work work (I had to -- it's becoming necessary if I want to stay on top of things and not be at the office until 9pm each night), I spent most of the day watching episodes of Scandal. One after the other...I can't help it. They know what they're doing. Each episode ends with you going, "Oh, I can't leave it there. I have to watch just one more to see what happens." I'm going to be seriously bereft when I run out of episodes.

I made myself take a break to write this post and to work on some Mothers' Day copy for O&C. I guess there was one other thing I did today -- cleaned up my photo folders and Dropbox. My computer was running out of space, and as I went through photos from Ryne's birthday party yesterday I got to the point where I couldn't save any more without cleaning off the computer. So now it's all nice and organized, with all the blurry photos gone and old photos archived on the server.

Speaking of Ryne's birthday, here are some of my favorites:

I like the look my dad is giving Ryne here. It's a cross between "What are you up to, kid?" and "What awesome thing are we going to do next?" He's going to be a good grandpa. Right before this was the first time Ryne had reached out to get my dad to hold him -- I won't take it personally that it was to get away from me ;)

I don't know what Scott and Uncle Dave were talking about here, but I also like the looks on their faces. It was something amusing, I guess.

These kids were the best. This is Tanner and Logan, twins on Courtney's side of the family. It cracked me up how they were sitting there eating popcorn and watching Ryne open presents -- like it was a show. But there was also this look of longing and restrained eagerness with each present -- and every once in awhile Ryne would open something and you'd hear a big "OOOOOHHH" from one of them. Big props to them for not lunging for the presents.

Here's Ryne climbing over his mountain of presents to try to get to the balloons a little girl had on the other side. Who cares about presents when there are balloons?

And here's Ryne opening the book I got him -- Darth Vader and Son. At some point he'll probably get tired of getting books from his aunt. We had also put some money in a college savings account for him as a Christmas / Birthday present, too, but that's not very exciting, either. Sorry, kid. It's good for you.

That's it for me, folks. Gonna go write some greeting card copy, watch more Scandal, and try to ignore the fact that I have to go to work tomorrow.
